The Mill Creek School provides a well-rounded, integrated curriculum and includes targeted supports to foster students’ success.
College, Career and Transition Program
Transition counseling at the Mill Creek School is a cornerstone of our commitment to preparing students for a fulfilling future. Our dedicated counselors work closely with each student to explore their unique interests, strengths and aspirations, guiding them toward meaningful goals and potential career paths. Through personalized support, we empower students to build confidence in their abilities and envision a bright, successful tomorrow.
Complementing this one-on-one guidance, we offer enriching opportunities such as guest speakers, hands-on workshops and Career Day events. These experiences connect students with inspiring professionals and practical insights, ensuring they feel supported and excited about the possibilities ahead as they transition to the next chapter of their lives.
Our college, career and transition supports include:
- Transition Counseling: The Mill Creek School is committed to providing a comprehensive counseling program that supports academic, social, personal and career development needs of all students. Students work with the school counseling department to identify their individual interests, abilities and goals, and explore potential career paths and future endeavors.
- Career Day Events: A biannual Career Day is held as an opportunity to provide students with exposure to guest speakers’ inspiring career perspectives and practical insights.
- Testing Opportunities in a Familiar, Calm Environment: Each year, the Mill Creek School offers the opportunity to take the PSAT, SAT, ACT and other testing during school days and in environments designated for our students only.
School-Based Counseling
At the Mill Creek School, our school-based counseling program is designed to empower students with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges, both within our nurturing school community and at home. Recognizing that emotional and social difficulties — such as anxiety, mood disorders or interpersonal conflicts — can impact a student’s ability to thrive, our highly qualified counselors provide individualized support tailored to each teen’s unique needs.
Our counseling services focus on helping students develop essential life skills, including conflict resolution, effective communication and emotional self-awareness. Through compassionate guidance, we assist students in understanding social cues, interpreting body language, and expressing their thoughts and feelings in healthy, constructive ways. Whether a student is learning to manage disagreements with peers, build stronger family relationships, or cope with the complexities of adolescence, our team is there every step of the way.
Beyond one-on-one sessions, we integrate practical strategies into the school day, fostering a safe and inclusive environment where students can practice these skills with confidence. For over 50 years, the Mill Creek School has been a trusted partner for families, offering expert support that not only addresses immediate challenges but also equips students with the resilience and social-emotional tools they need for long-term success. Our goal is to help every student feel understood, valued, and prepared to flourish — both in our hallways and in the world beyond.

Small Group Advisor
Each staff member serves as an advisor for a small group of students, providing guidance for meeting academic requirements and individual education plan goals, as well as maintaining ongoing communication with parents and school districts.
A Holistic Approach to Student Success: Music, Arts, and Health and Wellness
At the Mill Creek School, music, arts, and health and wellness are integral components of our academic curriculum, thoughtfully designed to nurture the whole student: mind, body and spirit. We have champion these programs as vital tools to support teens facing emotional and mental health challenges, helping them thrive in a caring and creative environment.
By weaving music, arts, and health and wellness into the fabric of our curriculum, the Mill Creek School offers a holistic education that meets students where they are and helps them grow into who they want to be. These programs are not just add-ons — they are essential to our mission of empowering teens to overcome barriers, build confidence, and envision a brighter future. We invite families to see the difference these opportunities make in the lives of our students.
- Music and Arts: Unleashing Creativity and Confidence
Our robust, evidence-based music and arts programs are more than just electives — they are transformative experiences that uplift and empower our students. Research consistently demonstrates that participation in music and art reduces stress, enhances self-esteem, strengthens social skills, and provides a healthy outlet for processing complex emotions. At Mill Creek, we see these benefits come to life every day as students discover their talents and build resilience through creative expression.
Students have the flexibility to explore both music and art or focus on the discipline that resonates most with them. In our music program, teens compose original songs, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their work. Similarly, our art classes encourage students to experiment with diverse mediums, from painting to sculpture, as they develop their unique expression.
- Health and Wellness: Building Strength Inside and Out
Complementing our creative offerings, the Mill Creek School’s health and wellness program is dedicated to promoting physical vitality and emotional balance. Thanks to a generous grant from the Jaws Foundation, established by former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, we’ve recently enhanced this program with state-of-the-art health equipment. This investment reflects our commitment to providing students with the resources they need to lead active, healthy lives.
Our health and wellness curriculum goes beyond traditional physical education. It incorporates mindfulness practices, fitness activities, and lessons on nutrition and self-care, all tailored to support students’ emotional well-being. Whether they’re participating in a group exercise session or learning strategies to manage stress, students gain practical tools to feel stronger, more centered, and ready to take on life’s challenges. Our staff, trained in both education and emotional support, ensure that every activity fosters a sense of belonging and personal growth.
