Family Program
The Mill Creek School Family Program offers an additional layer of support for parents. These supports include:
- In-School Family Meetings
These meetings are an opportunity to address student and parent concerns on issues impacting progress in school. These meetings are available on an as-needed basis.
- Transition Meetings
The guidance counselor, advisor and social worker offer support to help students and their families make post-high school plans and decisions appropriate for each student’s level of progress.
- Family-Based Activities
Can also be designed for difficult areas in which parents need help navigating.
- Parent Support Groups
Parent Support Group meetings are held monthly by members of the Emotional Support Team. This group is designed to educate and support parents and guardians on issues that directly impact their child’s ability to be successful in an educational setting. Meetings provide information on a range of relevant topics and are used as a space for Mill Creek parents build community and support one another, while receiving input and guidance from the Emotional Support Team.
Topics are determined by parent interest and identified needs. Most fall within three categories: special education topics, mental health topics and transition topics.
Some of these discussion topics may include:
- What can parents do to help their child prepare for young adulthood?
- How are MC students similar to and different from other students?
- Why is my MC student so stressed right now?
- How can parents help their child navigate social media?
- How do I help my child find the right therapist?
- How do I know when to push my child and when to soothe them?
- How can I guide my child toward the best options following graduation?
- How can I support my transgender child?
- What do I need to know about mood disorders and anxiety disorders in children?
- What are some things I can do at home to support my high-functioning autistic child?
- What are some realistic options for continued success for students who receive special education supports?
